Sec. 25(C) Energy Tax Credit for Wood Stoves: Do You Qualify?

The Energy Tax Credit covers 30% of the costs for wood stove purchases, installation labor, venting, and hearth pads. The 30% credit is capped at $2,000.

How Do I Qualify for the Wood Stove Tax Credit?

  • Your wood stove must be at least 75% efficient (HHV).
  • Your stove must be installed in the applicable tax years (2023 – 2032).
  • You cannot reduce your tax liability below zero, but you can carry any remaining credit forward to future years.

How Do I Claim the Energy Tax Credit?

You can claim your tax credit on your federal income tax return.

  • For software users: Enter the credit in the “Residential Energy Credit” or “Alternative Energy Credit” section.
  • For mail filers: Find the updated IRS form 5695 – Line 5: “Qualified biomass fuel property costs.”
